so much to do, so little time....

I have a massive pile of assignments due at 8:45am tomorrow and Iapos;m screwed. Not to mention we were suppose to finish our English novels and get interviewed about them and I havenapos;t even finished mine yet. HAHA. So much for promising myself I wouldnapos;t procrastinate. I should have been attending a University open house but I went to the wedding instead. It took up the entire day and now my battery is low. Iapos;m exhausted.

Why do I even try anymore?

And why am I posting on LJ when I should be starting said assignments?

Itapos;s been a loong time since last posting, We originally joined to keep in touch with my daughter while she was in Japan. She is back now, got married and is very busy in college and work. Now we can start posting to stay Updated. Both our lives are very busy. A month after she (redinJapan, or red.) got married I (her Dad) was also married. Funny old thing life, at her wedding I signed their marriage license, then my new son in law signed mine at our wedding. Red was writing about extended families in her last posting and it got me to remembering that, although its only been five months now.

I almost smacked Jean upside the head tonight.

During meal time, if no one needs help, Iapos;ll take the dirty trays into the kitchen to wash. There were a few people in line who didnapos;t need help then the 101 year old who wasnapos;t at the dishes yet. I went into the kitchen, put a load in and then came back out. Bessie was standing there with her tray behind Jean who wasnapos;t even at the salad bar yet. Jean turned to me and said I was just about to come and get you because Bessie needs help. I told her that I was going to come out and I did. She replied that she didnapos;t know that and Bessie didnapos;t know that. Again I said that I was here (there are three staff in the dining room at each meal. Someone would have been there eventually.) and she asked me why was I being smart.

Excuse me? I told her it was because I could, I guess. Then Alex wants someone to give him an alarm clock to use on Monday - I clocked out, told him to go to Target, and then mentioned his cell has an alarm clock. I showed him how to set it, handed him the phone, and said I was leaving. And he thought it was something he did. He aplogized for upsetting me. You didnapos;t upset me, Iapos;m off work, Iapos;m going home. You never know what exactly these people are going to come up with next.

I think I need to pray for patience.

so, today i decided to audition for the new upper school play, "fings ainapos;t what they used apos;t be". Iapos;d never heard of it before. Never seen it, and had no clue whatsoever what it was about.
halfway during the audition, me and janis grew to realise that it is about prostitutes. And whores.
at least, thatapos;s what we think. We were sitting there during the practise hour actually picking our bits that sold us the story of prostitution/sleeping around/cockney whores.

evidence:
"come on lil, give us a jack" (hem hem. Jack. As in jack you off.)
"twenty years on the game and nota penny to show fer it." (game get it)

hahahahaha. I canapos;t wait for when we get to perform this to an audience...i wonder if theyapos;ll realise theyapos;re watching an acted out prostitution play...?

So, people like me (people who do not come to class very often) often have to make themselves known in classes where the teacher has told you outright that he will fix your grade based on class participation. So, if the teacher noticed you making comments he will push the grade up a substantial amount. Anyway, I am usually very good at this. In fact this is how I got through high school...making myself known as a smarty. Ishould repeat: I am usually very good at this. I am very bad at this in my anthropology class. Since Imissed some 2 weeks of class due to sheer apathy, I sort of have to make up for it now. Iapos;ve been asking questions and making comments and even coming to class. Well, Icome in to class a few days ago (late unfortunately) and he has a woodcut of "Baba Iaga" up on the projector. He is explaining the symbolism..."Here is Baba Iaga riding a boar, which represents WAR, and she has a pestle which represents her shamanistic healer nature. She is confronting a cat, which relates to the myth of the Brave Boy and Baba Iaga."
The image is this one:

In a larger version you can clearly see the text, which is something between modern Russian and Slavonic. Anyway, some funky letters but otherwise not hard to read. You can also clearly see that there is no cat in the picture...it is a fox-man of some sort.
The text above says (clearly)
"Yaga Baba rides to fight the Corcodile, with a pestle, on a swine,
and under a bush they have a glass of wine."

A quick google search reveals that this is a satyrical woodcut from the late 17th century. What does this tell us?
A- This is not nearly as old as my professor thought it was.
B- The "crocodile" is Peter the Great, the Yaga Baba is Catherine. This is a political cartoon not a religious drawing or a written history of a myth.
C- That is most definately not a cat.

Anyway, Icannot let these things slide. As I broke the news to my remarkably arrogant professor, I did not notice anything particularly out of the ordinary, but I was later informed that he was shaking with fright. To me, however, he seemed genuinely interested in the true history of the woodcut and asked me to email him the details and my sources...he may be scheming or I may get a good grade yet. Weapos;ll see

That was pretty much the hilight of my day...scaring my crazy professor.

School went well from there. Not badly anyway.
My brakes had been making a horrible scraping sound for about a week now so Ifinally stopped by the auto shop to get a free brake check. I ended up having to get new brake pads, because I clearly did not have any left. They gave me a nice discount and waived the disposal fee because there was sadly nothing to dispose. Still, thatapos;s 200 bucks Ididnapos;t really have. Then, not especially eager to drive 25 miles in stop-go traffic, I called Keith and told him that if he wants to celebrate Nietzsche Day with me heapos;d have to drive up here...so we quarreled.
I came home, listened to some Wagner operas and read my favorite of Zarathustraapos;s speeches.

"Thus SpokeZarathustra" is like a Bible to me. Zarathustra is a greater prophet than Christ ever was. Hah.
Before bed I will probably listen to Straussapos;s tone poem of the same name and fall asleep angry and discontent. How Nietzschean of me

Happy Nietzsche Day, everyone.

Why does a simple decision seem so hard?

i still donapos;t know if i should learn the harp for band. ;/

most of my friendskeep telling me to learn

then there are the few who just ask me tostick towhat iapos;m better at.

the problem is i donapos;t know if i can commit and if i really want it.

how how how. Should i?

yes its a cool opportunity though, and half of me wants to learn it, but half of me is afraid for God knows what reason.

iapos;m in a really stupid dilemma. :// omg HOW.

Recently I have been observing that I spend most of my time feeling angry without really knowing why. Today was an extreme example of this and I spent almost the whole day unable to understand what the problem was.

At one point, however, I decided that making cookies was in order (it seems like a good thing to do on a long weekend). After mixing the batter, I started portioning out the mixture into a pan when suddenly I came to an understanding. It seems as though this mindless yet physically engaging task was exactly what I needed to allow my thoughts to reach their conclusions without interruption. After a while, I realized what the problem was. I donapos;t know what I can do about it, now, however. Perhaps in a few weeks, there will be an opportunity. I also need to decide what, exactly, I am supposed to do. Of course, understanding the problem is the hardest part so that much is now covered (at least I mostly understand it, now).

My dilemma, much like the contents of a string, is the same each time you re-hash it,
